Midrashic literature and interpretation is often dismissed as a mere flight of rabbinic fancy with little to offer in terms of textual insight. We will examine two key instances of fanciful Midrash and discover how, properly understood, the mysterious commentaries of the Sages guide us to truly profound and compelling new readings of Biblical narrative.
