Joseph's story stands out in Torah as being a recognizably "queer" narrative. That is, his tale unfolds in curious ways, marking him as an outsider and a survivor. The sages find him curious and problematic in ways that keep pointing towards gender and sexuality. And late in life, after years of careful self-presentation as Pharaoh's right hand, Joseph seems to settle in for a final chapter as a kind of wise woman of his clan. Together we will look at text and commentary, and embrace the fullness of this ancestor and archetype.
